Final Fantasy 14 Invites Old Players Back

There’s no doubt that Final Fantasy 14 is one of the best looking MMORPGs out there. The world looks great and the characters and gears looks even more awesome. But it had a few really huge problems, especially gameplay. It took them well over a year before the game got to anywhere to be properly playable by most people since the incredibly complex system made it hard for new players to pick up the game.

But when the game finally reached v2.0, FF14 finally returns to be subscription based. However, that means most players who did not renew their subscription never did get the full taste of the relaunched game, which probably translates to a large number of dropouts. That’s probably one of the main reason why Square-Enix decided to invite all players back into the game by giving access to everyone who had an inactive account a chance to give the “new and improved” FF14 a go.

From now until May 20th, you’ll be able to access your game and also take part in the Seventh Umbral Era story arc and the new job system. It’s a good chance to take a look at what’s new and also pay your chars a visit on Eorza.

Diablo 3 Open Beta Weekend!

The Diablo 3 beta will come to an end on May 1, and Blizzard is probably hoping to do a quick round of server stress test while giving fans a chance to whet their appetite for the May 15 release with an open beta weekend.

Diablo 3 open beta will run from 12:01 p.m. PDT April 20 and 10:00 a.m. PDT April 23. All you need is a Battle.net account. Just login, download the beta client and while waiting, create your BattleTag.

The beta clients takes a whopping 15.1gb of space, which is weird considering the full game client is supposed to be around 12gb only, so you might need to do a little cleaning up if your hdd is full. (UPDATE: The beta only takes up about 3.7gb of space, but it won’t let you install on a hdd that has less than 15.1gb for some reason.)

Diablo 3 Barbarian Week

Blizzard finally launched their official Diablo 3 reveal website around the end of last week, featuring the Demon Hunter. That was the character of the week, when more info on the class were given out and you were given a chance to create an exclusive sigil or banner which you can use in the game after launch. This week, we have the Barbarian.

Just as before, the Barbarian is set to be a powerful melee class that will devastate hordes of demons at close range. With their naturally high defense and resistance, they will be very difficult to bring down.

The Barbarian is the only returning class from Diablo 2, which wasn’t even originally planned. The class was created as something new but the dev team started calling it the Barbarian, and so he makes a return to Diablo 3.

If you’ve missed any class sigil creation during their week, fret not. It has been revealed that there will be a small window of opportunity before the launch of the game where you can create any class sigil’s you’ve missed before.

Free Online Mahjong Games Explode Into Life

MMO Games Buffet

Rows of tables covered with white clothes are laid out in front of me. On them are silver trays that stacks up to three layers high and the main cuisine they are serving tonight are MMOs.

I have a bad addiction when it comes to any MMO games, I simply must try them. I will apply into any closed betas and then forgetting about it several months later until my close beta acceptance email came. I jump and register for any open beta MMOs I can find and just worry about downloading the client later. I look into free to play MMOs whenever I am bored of playing Skyrim or Modern Warfare 3.

But at the end of the day, I just never stick around after trying the online game for 2 weeks. My usual complaints are “Leveling is too grindy”, “They will wipe out my character when close/open beta finishes” and my favorite excuse to quit, “I have to pay for subscription”. However they are not my main reasons for trying MMOs and quitting them, no matter how whiny they sound like. I quit playing because I felt alone in the online world.

This does sound stupid as how can one be alone when it is a Massive Multiplayer Online game where thousands of players are online and playing at the same time. There will always be people running around, doing quest and KSing your mobs. However to me, they are just simply nothing more than just NPC that act like human.

I feel that human interactions are important to keep any MMO alive. A player maybe questing alone but he will never be bored when there are friends and guildmates keeping him company. I always enter MMO games alone because my friends do not share my fun in testing MMO games.

Which is why I never last longer than 2 weeks, walking around the world and testing the game mechanics. Eventually I will be lazy to keep the game updated, the game is untouched for months and eventually deleted off my hard drive.

MarineKing MLG Winter Champion

MarineKing recently broke his “kong” curse of always getting 2nd place in major tournaments by taking the MLG Winter Arena championship against DRG who is the most recent GSL Code S champion. But MKP proved once again that he has left the kong line for good when he took the championship again over the weekend MLG Winter Championship.

That’s TWO MLG Championships in a row and its no small feat, especially when once again his opponent in the finals is the Terran killer and Code S champion DRG.

Based on the games he has shown during the entire MLG event, you can easily see how much MKP has improved, especially in his macro and mech play while still being able to show interesting builds and plays that he’s well known for along with crazy marine and thor micros.

Will MarineKing be back to defend his title for 3 consecutive MLGs in a row? I certainly hope so, along with a GSL championship

Diablo 3 Release Date Announced – Hell Has Arrived!

After 4 years of waiting with delays after delays, we finally have it. Posted just a while ago, Blizzard has announced the date where the gates of hell finally reopens and its legion pours onto the world of Sanctuary once more.

The date is 15th May, 2012. Exactly 2 months from now, a giant horde of gamers will once again pick up their weapons to fight the forces of hell.

While there are still many questions and details not yet released about the different regions and auction houses, one thing is for certain – SEA, Australia and New Zealand players will be put together with NA players. That means we’ll be connecting to NA servers and participate in NA auction houses.

Diablo 3 can be pre-loaded by pre-purchasing it from Bnet, so if you can’t wait to re-enter Sanctuary and you haven’t pre-ordered your copy of D3, you might just want to get it directly from Bnet.

Diablo 3 Release Date “in the Near Future”

Jay Wilson, the game director for Diablo 3 have given word to the community that the announcement for the release date of the highly anticipated and long awaited game will be announced “in the near future”, purposely avoiding using the word “soon”.

Hopefully this means they are now getting serious about releasing the date in the coming week or two, which would also fit into the Q2 target launch – something that was brought to light in the most recent Blizzard investor call a while back.

What’s interesting to be noted here is that Diablo 2 was launched on the 29th of June back in 2000. Exactly a year later, again on the 29th of June, Lord of Destruction came out. Diablo 3 was first announced back in 2008, on June 28. If we are truly seeing a deliberate pattern here, it’s not too far-fetched to speculate that the release date for Diablo 3 could very well be on the 28th or 29th of June this year.
