Why You Shouldn’t Buy PS Vita on Launch Day

Previously I wrote a blog post about “Why You Should Buy PS Vita on Launch Day“. Today I will give you reasons Why You Shouldn’t Buy a PS Vita on Launch Day.

It’s An Expensive Portable Gaming Device

At a launch price of $250, the PS Vita is the most expensive portable gaming device to date.

Wait, I know what you are thinking. “The Nintendo 3DS was launched at $250 too!”.

That’s true but the 3DS worked out of the box without having to purchase any extra accessories. The PS Vita however requires and uses a proprietary memory card which is priced much higher compared to other memory cards on the market.

To make things worse, the memory card will not be included and must be purchased separately thus adding more costs to the already expensive $250 price tag. This doesn’t include games yet.

In reality, the total costs for PS Vita will be close to $300 minimum, to which for the same amount you can purchase a 160GB PS3 with spare change for some games. If you don’t already own one and portability isn’t a main concern, I would advise anyone to buy a PS3 instead. It’s definitely more worth it.

Many Features Not Yet Implemented

While Sony boasts new features on the PS Vita, majority of them have yet to be implemented and I doubt the US launch will make any difference. For an example, many games still doesn’t support Remote Play.

1st Generation Batch Problems

One of the reasons why one shouldn’t buy a gaming device at launch is the possibility of having software or hardware problems. Having said that, I have yet to come across any major problems on my PS Vita except for the occasional boot up issue.

By right, holding down the power button for 5 seconds boots up the device. However, there are times where I had to hold the down the button for 20 seconds and repeat the process before it finally booted up. Nothing major but it gave me a heart attack at first – “Oh shit! My PS Vita stopped working!”.

No Reason for the Rush

While the launch titles for PS Vita are looking good, it doesn’t exactly give you a reason to buy it on day one. Unless you absolutely must have one on launch day, it would be advisable to play the “Wait and See” card. As time passes, you are bound to come across better deals.

That’s it folks and I hope both articles helped in your decision making. If you have any questions feel free to drop us a comment.
